WELCOME TO THE NIGHT WATCH FOR EUROPE
Last week’s focus on the Trier worship and prayer initiative being taken by Pray Big has clearly connected powerfully with the exercise of many watchers at this time. It is no coincidence that it is happening at a time when prophets across Europe are emphasising the conclusion of a season with the Jewish New Year on September 15th. This week we will keep interceding alongside the Trier initiative that continues until next weekend. We will also pray for the successful transition of times by picking up some aspects of the relevant prophetic words.

We will send you a brief outline for prayer each week according to the prophetic direction coming from the contemporary prophetic movement in Europe. You will not always agree with everything in the watch material. Go with what you can and trust the Lord to help you with the rest. This Nightwatch began in November 2003 and we are looking to carry on for another year and two months, while realising that some can’t commit right now for as long as that, we are pleased for you to enlist for as long as you can. If you have to miss an occasional watch it’s OK as the rest of us will carry it. A six-month commitment is probably a good start.
THE CONTENT OF THE WATCH FOR THE WEEK BEGINNING SUNDAY 9th SEPTEMBER 2007
Once again this week we will pray into the prayer and worship initiative in Trier that is taking place from September 5th- 13th.

1. THE TRIER INITIATIVE (30 MINUTES)
a) Pray generally into the following report from Rusty Richards (10 minutes), and then pray specifically using the notes below (20 minutes):
“Janet and I met with Pastor Mike and the elders of the Trier church last night. We had a wonderful time in the Lord going over schedules and strategies, sharing insights and coming to one heart and mind about this initiative. We agree that our team will build the altar of worship while you (The Nightwatch for Europe!) and they do battle. It is a good plan and it is God's plan! The rest of the team will join us tomorrow.
Some prayer points: this church feels the heat. They know the intensity of the warfare going on over Trier. They have been warring for 13 years and have been praying that God would send help from the outside. They see this time as an answer. They strongly feel it will mark new beginnings. In their spiritual view, Germany is the centre of Europe and Trier is the centre of Germany. Its position as the 1st city in Germany is significant. They also trace its founding to Trebeta, son of Semiramis.* In addition to the spiritual powers that Pray Big and NIGHTWATCH have identified and which the church confirmed, they feel strongly that the entity called prince of Persia is the controller.* Also, sexual perversion and witchcraft are strong here and associated with violence.
Our team relationships are very good, but it has been more than a normal challenge to communicate on this trip. We are walking in faith by grace. Thank you for all you are doing. We are standing together! “
b) Pray into the following notes for Rusty’s report (20 minutes)
* a) Trebeta: According to legend Trebeta was the founder of Trier. He was the son of Ninus, King of Assyria, by a wife prior to his marriage to Queen Semiramis. His step-mother Semiramis despised him, and when she took over the kingdom after the death of his father Ninus, Trebeta left Assyria and went to Europe. After wandering for a time, he led a group of colonizers to settle at Trier in what is now Germany around 2000 BC. Spiritual research has it that Semiramis and Shinar are the same and identifies this queen with Shinar or Babylon. In other words the founder of Trier was running from the spirit of empire. This underlines that Trier could have been a stronghold against empire, that had Constantine understood his vision of the cross rightly he would have led against empire not for it and that once again today Trier can be a stronghold of God against the empire spirit. Let’s repent for all desire to rule over or dominate others in our own hearts, church expressions, towns, cities, nations and continent and pray for this Nightwatch and all the church of God to be an intercessory stronghold against empire together with all sons and daughters of peace across Europe (10 minutes)
* b) The Prince of Persia is the entity encountered by Daniel in his intercessory warfare against empire in Daniel chapter 10. Notice that the archangel Michael was warring with him against this Empire Spirit. In my understanding the masculine manifestation of Empire (in this case the prince of Persia) establishes and defends empire while the feminine manifestation (in this case Semiramis) settles and establishes it. Making sure that we humble ourselves and are in right relationships as far as we can and that we are forgiving all who sin against us, let’s resist these spirits of empire with all our might! (10 minutes)
3. PRAY FOR DELIVERANCE FOR THE EUROPEAN UNION FROM THE SPIRIT OF EMPIRE (20 MINUTES)
a) Declare again the difference between the spirit of empire and the kingdom of God, using the Lord’s Prayer to affirm it. (10 minutes)
Christians are people who have discovered that it is the purpose of the God of heaven to fill the world with his love. We have discovered that at the heart of the Godhead, Father Son and Holy Spirit, is the love that gives itself for others to the point of death. This kind of love overcomes evil, sin and injustice and brings about the resurrection of all that is true and good. We call this the kingdom of God and it brings real peace. Empire on the other hand also aims to fill the world and bring about peace, but it does so by dominating others through economic and military violence. Empire justifies or legitimises this kind of power through suggesting that the God of heaven uses his power to dominate the universe in a similar way, or in more recent centuries, that even if there is no God, this is still the nature of reality (the survival of the fittest).
“Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” (Matt 6:9-13)
b) Repent of and repudiate the statements that the Portuguese president of the EU made on July 10th 2007 (10 minutes)
On July 10th, EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso, rejoicing in the "success" of his Renamed Constitution, hailed the EU as "the creation of an Empire", adding "We have the dimensions of Empire".
Repent of and repudiate these powerful and dangerous words.
Ask God to undo their power and overcome the people and institutions that could make them true.
Thank the Lord for every good potential in the European Union that could overcome the spirits of empire in the individual nation states of our continent. Thank God for all the potential to overcome war and promote peace. Thank God for all the potential to repent for our past empires and promote justice among the poorer nations of our ex colonies. Declare that the intentions of Satan for the EU will not succeed, and that the cross of Jesus will triumph here.
3. Pray over the following prophetic outline for this season, as much as it makes sense of your life and experience as the body of Christ. We will take it up in more detail in the coming weeks (10 minutes)
Since 1990 it is helpful to understand our prophetic location in two year blocks (from September to September, following the Jewish new Year as September 13th) up until 2000:
Intense disturbance (1990-92)
Intense intercession (1992-1994)
Intervention<From the Lord to the church> (1994-96)
Positioning (96-98)
Perseverance (1998-2000)
Then from 2000 onwards four year blocks in reverse
Perseverance (2000 - 2004)
Positioning (2004-2008)
Intervention <through the church into the world> (2008-2012)
Intercession <of the church for the world> (2012-2016)
Disturbance <in the world> (2016-2020)
Note that this places us right on the shift from re-positioning to the intervention through the church for the world.
